Data Sources Overview
Understanding data sources and how they provide data to Kogenta Connect.
Data sources are connections to external databases that provide the underlying data for your workflows and data layers. They allow Kogenta Connect to query tables, views, and schemas from your existing data infrastructure.
Supported connections
Kogenta Connect supports a wide range of database and warehouse connections:
- Cloud data warehouses - Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse
- Relational databases - PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle
- Enterprise platforms - Teradata, Salesforce Data Cloud
- Data lake catalogs - AWS Glue, Hive metastore
If your data source is not listed here, contact the Kogenta team - additional connection types may be available.
How data sources work
A data source stores the connection details and credentials needed to communicate with an external database. Once configured, it enables:
- Browsing catalogs, schemas, tables, and columns within the connected database
- Querying the database through workflows using SQL
- Importing tables and views as data layers for easy reference
Getting a data source configured
Data sources are configured for your organization by the Kogenta team. If you need a new data source connection, reach out to your Kogenta contact and provide:
- The type of database you want to connect
- Connection details (server hostname, warehouse, project ID, etc.)
- Credentials or access instructions for the database
Once configured, the data source will appear in the Data Sources section of the sidebar and be available for use in workflows and data layer imports.
Data source status
Each data source shows a connection status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | The connection is working and data can be queried |
| Error | There is a problem with the connection - contact your Kogenta representative |
| Unconfigured | The data source has been created but connection details are not yet complete |
