Organizing Data Layers

How to use folders to organize your data layers in Kogenta Connect.

As your data layer catalog grows, folders help you keep everything structured and easy to find.

Folder hierarchy

Data layers can be organized into a nested folder structure, similar to directories on your computer. You can create folders, nest folders inside other folders, and move data layers between them.

Creating folders

To create a new folder:

  1. Navigate to the Data Layers section
  2. Use the create folder option
  3. Give the folder a name
  4. Optionally place it inside an existing folder

Folder names must be unique within the same parent folder.

Moving and renaming

You can move data layers and folders by dragging them into the desired location, or by using the move option in the item menu. Folders can be renamed at any time.

Unfiled items

Data layers that are not assigned to any folder appear in the default Unfiled section. You can move them into folders at any time to keep your workspace organized.

Best practices

  • Group by domain - organize data layers by business area (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Operations)
  • Separate sources - keep connected tables and uploaded files in separate folders if it helps clarity
  • Use descriptive names - give folders and data layers clear names so team members can find what they need
